Propagating Alocasias in Water or LECA

Alocasias, with their striking foliage, can thrive beautifully in hydroponic setups using water and LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate). To start, choose a healthy Alocasia cutting with at least two nodes. Cut just below a node using sterilized scissors, and remove any lower leaves that might sit in water.

For a water-only setup, place the stem in a container filled with clean water, ensuring the nodes are submerged. Change the water weekly to prevent algae and bacteria buildup. For LECA, fill a container with these clay pebbles, positioning the stem so that the bottom touches water when added. This setup promotes oxygen circulation around the roots, encouraging robust growth.

Position your Alocasia in a warm spot with bright, indirect light. Both setups allow for impressive root growth and a stunning display of Alocasia's unique leaves.
